Great sound, incredibly convenient for Zoom video meetings
5 Stars
Great sound, incredibly convenient for Zoom video meetings
Update: 7/12/21: right earphone stopped charging after 9 months; case stopped charging after 11 months. Have had good experiences with other soundpeats headphones but this model is reliable.-------------------------Why did I buy them: primarily to add convenience to working from home (no more annoying wired headsets). Also for low intensity recreation like bike riding or walking the dog.Things I like:- comfortable: I've been using SoundPeats Sonic for 4 or 5 weeks. I can wear these all day without discomfort. Pretty much essential when working from home full time- Bluetooth performance: Really easy to set up, these pair with my Lenovo work laptop as soon as I remove the soundpeats from their case. They have no noticable latency compaired with my (annoying) wired headset and have a low latency mode if you are susceptible to latency issues on video calls (I haven't found it necessary to use this mode). Range is excellent too - on voice calls I can roam anywhere in my house without drop outs. No problems using with iphone either.Sound quality: great clarity on spoken audio for incoming video / audio calls, and I've had no complaints from colleagues about the quality of the inbuilt SoundPeats mic. Music sounds excellent, verly clear with possibly a bit of hyping of the bass. Aboslutely demolishes my wired apple earbuds for music quality on the iphone, these are in a totally different league.Battery life: quoted at 15 hours with another 2 full charges in the case. I've never measured battery life but I can typically get through the working week without recharging the case. Best battery life I've experienced in in-ear wireless headphonesPhysical buttons: the last soundpeats I owned (TrueDot) had touch controls - these worked okay unless your hands were sweaty. The sonic have physical buttons which I prefer as you get far less false presses than touch controls.Areas for improvement: for my use case, not really anything. If you are doing vigorous excercise, the Sonics are likely to fall out so there's better options if active sports are your primary use. For sports I'd suggest the Truengine2 which my partner uses and adores.Overall: incredible earphones for price. Probably the best bit of gear I've picked up to improve the home office experience, and the fact you can get them on sale under $50 put these in no brainer territory.

I had these earphones for about one week. Other comparable true wireless earphones I’ve also owned – Xiaomi Haylou GT1 and QCY T2S.

Build quality - I love these earphones. The case feels good and sturdy with a bit of weight, heavier than its predecessor (due to bigger battery life). The case also comes with a lid, which was a much welcomed change for extra protection and keep the dust out. Unfortunately, it is still using a micro USB for charging (cable included) and would have liked to see a USB type c connection instead. The earbuds were also built with high quality, it looks like it can take some beating if you do drop them. Other than the minimal branding on the earbuds they are mainly black. They do not have the smallest profile but it doesn’t bulge out of my ears so they do look fine. There’s also a button on each earbud which allows you to start/stop and skip/playback. Although it doesn’t require much force, whenever I try to push the buttons on the earbuds, I can feel it pressing against my ears but it doesn’t hurt so it didn’t concern me too much.

Fitting – I have average ear size. I used the default ear cups on the earbuds and they fit nicely. It comes with three pairs of different sized ear cups to accommodate all sizes. I have no problems with running or jumping and I feel confident they will remain intact in my ears. I did not experience any pain from using them continuously up to 3 hours. As far as I know, these earbuds are not waterproof but I did not have any problems when they got wet due to sweating (still intact as well).

Paring/Connection – I had no problem with the initial pairing. I took out right earbud and it started blinking, then successfully paired to my android phone after searching. Then took out the left earbud which automatically connected and synced with the other earbud. Honestly took less than 3 minutes. So far, I had no issues with the connection. Reliability is very important to me and these earbuds delivered. The Bluetooth v5 must’ve worked very well with my Samsung phone. I usually have my phone on me but I did test up to 5 meters and had no problems with the connection.

Power – I did get about 3-4 hours per charge. Didn’t do any extensive testing yet but I’m confident that the case can power these earbuds very close to 35 hours playtime.

Sound – These sound excellent. Obviously not expecting these for critical listening. A little more on the bassy side. Mids were good and balanced. Vocals and instruments came out clear. It didn’t really handle highs very well and can lose a bit of clarity. Average sound stage and imaging as expected from most earphones. Sounds very close with a weird slight angle to the back (maybe just me?). There is a small latency when viewing videos but you won’t notice it unless you are looking for it. This is similar to other budget wireless earbuds I had. Google assistant worked fine, but it will not pick up whispering (in case you want to activate google assistant discreetly). The microphone was not the clearest during phone calls but it did the job.

Conclusion - This is a very attractive price point for wireless earphones. I would recommend these earphones for those who like quality sounds with a bit of beat/bass in their music. If you want a less bassy one with touch function, then try Xiaomi Haylou GT1. If you prefer a cheaper alternative, then try QCY T2S. I would definitely recommend SoundPEATS True Wireless as my top choice for superior sound quality, battery life, and reliability. No regrets for this price.

The one problem with these earphones is the constant dropouts. I haven't worked out why it drops out, maybe interference from nearby devices. At first the right earbud would drop out for 3-4 seconds then continue. Yesterday there were no dropouts. And today it was the left earbud. So I don't think it's faulty, there's something else going on here.

As for the earbuds themselves, they look great, I like the champagne metallic finish. They're light weight and comfortable. It comes with 3 pairs of silicone tips. The medium ones felt a bit loose so I tried the large ones, but this turned out to make things worse, the large ones don't seem to form a good seal in my ear canal and this is necessary to block out noise. Without a good seal you also won't hear the bass properly, so I'll go back to the medium ones. They sit comfortably in the ear, not the smallest earbuds I've seen but for the price they're good enough. There's a light on each earbud that turns on when the music stops and turns off when the music's playing.

Now onto the sound. Assuming you have a good canal seal from the silicone tips the sound quality is pretty good, definitely a lot nicer than my old Jaybirds. The bass is clear but a little soft. The overall volume level is fairly soft so I just need to turn it up a bit, it's hard to get the perfect volume sometimes. But yeah pretty good audio reproduction.

Using the earbuds is simple enough, take them out of the charging container and they turn on and connect immediately without fail. And to turn them off just place them back in the charging container. There's one button on each earbud and a list of presses you need to memorise to use all the features (e.g. 2 presses of the left earbud to go to the previous song). This button is a little stiff and hard to press but you can get used to it, or just control everything from your phone.

So far I've used them a fair bit for 4 days and there's still plenty of battery left, no complaints there. They charge with USB-C which is nice.

Update: 1 month later: they still drop out all the time. It happens in busy city areas or near certain buildings when walking outside. It never drops out at home, so definitely caused by interference. Also, whichever earbud I remove first from the case, that seems to work better. The one I remove from the case second is the one that drops out. So I'd say the problem is one earbud transmitting to the other earbud. It's not the connection from the phone to the first earbud.
