So much fun! I loved the first Mario + Rabbids and this one is an upgraded ver of the first one.

Thoroughly enjoyed playing Mario + Rabbids Spark of Hope, the game play has definitely been improved since the first game and all of the quirkiness you come to expect from the rabbids was throughout the game

Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope certainly delivers in my 50 hour play through. I won’t spend much time going over the changes to the original as they have been covered well in the reviews, but I will point out that you don’t need to have played the first title to jump in here. Any references are explained through some light exposition.

The game is impressive in its scale. Each of the five worlds is packed with side quests and areas to explore off the main quest line. In your team of 2-4 players, you can add active and passive boons via the Rabbid Lumas to suit your play style. While you mostly have control who is in your team, there are a handful of quests where these are predetermined so you get to play with all characters at least once. This is helpful as you are controlling all nine in the final boss fight!

While I was low-level disappointed by the lacking enemy variety and the uninspired boss designs compared to the first title, it certainly made up for it in the stage designs. Each level could be a standard objective to defeat all or a specific number of enemies, or to reach a certain destination, or to survive a specified number of rounds against spawning enemies. But as you progress each stage keeps iterating and getting bigger. And longer. And more fun. Then, when you think the developers have run out ideas, the final boss fight was truly epic. Oh, the soundtrack and score is something else too!

The change with the approach with the voice over of the Rabbids has divided the community, but I’m in agreement on the choice of voice for Beep-O as a campy, British accent. 100% wrong and annoying that I was speeding through any dialogue (and there’s a lot of it). For me, this was the only black fly in my Chardonnay.

I know Ubisoft has a track record of putting their titles on sale quite quickly following launch, but I was quite happy to get this on Day 1 with a shiny steelbook. Sparks of Hope is a worthy sequel at any price. [9/10]
