The battery life is terrible. It doesn't last a day the first time I got it I returned it thinking it was faulty but it's wasn't that's just the way it is. There's battery extenders but why have a smart watch if you're turning off all the features. Note the battery extender even turns off looking at the time. There is also a customised option but again why have a smart watch if you can't use the features? Including reading the time.
Plus there no other way to charge it other than what is supplied with it.

It's badly designed. When you exercise at the gym the knob where you turn it off constantly turns the watch off when you lift your wrist. You hold a weight up it turns off. You put your hands on your waist it turns off. It's just bad design.

It never works when you want it to in terms of calling, sending messages etc. Half the time Google commands don't work, there's an unknown error etc.

And after having GPS, there isn't even maps loaded into it. You can't navigate from your watch. When you're walking you don't really really want to be looking and guided by your phone you want your smart watch to help you navigate.

I used to have a Sony smartwatch. This was so long ago and to me it's way better than this one. Lasted ages, could charge from a USB, maps worked... The world has gone backwards with smart watches.

I would have returned this if I could... Unfortunately I got a small ding on it... That's right it's not very hardy either. Basically just brushed against something and it got a ding.

The battery life for the watch was really poor. You charge it and its gone, I have to put this device on charge for atleast 3 times in a day.

I just "upgraded" to this watch after having a Pebble 2. I can't believe that this watch cost twice the price and functions half as well.

The battery is atrociously bad. I charged it last night and it lost almost 50% while I was sleeping!

The UI is a confusing mess. There are two separate Settings apps. There are three separate app launchers.

The button functionality is a mess e.g. for media controls the top button is Back, the bottom button is Forward, the middle button is Close. Why is the middle button Close!? Why isn't it Play/Pause!?

There's a heap of bloatware apps that you can't uninstall. There's also invisible apps that you can uninstall, but you can't run those apps.

WTF is the Fossil app?? I think it might actually be a broken app because it literally does nothing. This on a brand new device!

The strap is also garbage. It's a $400 watch with the cheapest-quality $2 strap. What a rip-off.

It is a shame but this watch has had a problem just a few days after the window for return closed, we are now having to send it back for return and not even being offered the opportunity for refund even though it is less than 6 weeks old, we have lost faith in the reliability of this watch. On top of that having sent it for repair earlier this week we are now in receipt of a text which says the repair centre has closed due to the COVID situation
My son is so disappointed as he was using it to track his exercise routines while in lockdown
I would like a refund given the newness of this watch

The phone paired easily and went through most of the setup process without issues. I then left it on the charger while it was still updating a few apps. A few hours later when I went back to it, it was on the clock screen and I could no longer get back into the menus. Flashes on and off, tried resetting (hard and soft) multiple times, same issue.
So disappointing. . Spent hours trying multiple online suggestions to get it to work but it's still broken and all on day 1. I wouldn't recommend this watch to anyone. Such a waste of my time and now I have to figure out how to get my money back for it.... Tried to call Fossil "customer service" but they're closed on a public holiday.

Nice watch, fits well, good weight feels nice on, like quality. Battery unfortunately does not last very long. It's saving grace in this is the nice fast charging. So, top ups / recharge are quick and easy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extruding buttons get randomly pressed by wrist

The price is right and classy look. The battery life could be longer, but the watch's battery life is typical for this type of product.

Very happy with the purchase. The only thing i would redesign is the extruding buttons. When bending your wrist upwards, the extruding buttons get pressed inadvertently. Google Assistant gets activated, but it is a minor nuisance. Overall, very pleased with this watch.

5.0 out of 5 stars This was a nice upgrade from my old Wear OS watch
Reviewed in the United States on 3 December 2019

I've been a wear OS (Android Wear) person pretty much since the first few watches came out. I first got the Moto 360 and then the Huawei Watch and then the Huawei Watch 2. In each instance, I've been fairly happy with the devices and the quality of the devices themselves. Wear OS's problems are something else. That's Google for you but given that I'm not a Samsung or Apple fan, I've done what I can to steer clear of those brands.

My last Wear OS watch was the Huawei Watch 2 and I got a full 2 years of use out of that one. Towards the end, it started to act up but that coincided with the release of the Gen 5 and the subsequent sale on Black Friday. I was waiting for that to happen, hoping to eek out a few more days and weeks from my Huawei watch.

So far, I've only had my Gen 5 for a couple of days. It's hard to say how the battery life is after just those 2 days but I can say this. The watch charges fast. Real fast. I was at 58% yesterday and I set it on the charger before I went to wash up for bed. By the time I got back to the watch, it was fully charged. That was maybe 30 minutes. So I took the watch off the charger and I set it aside to see what the battery power would look like in the morning. Not too shabby...it was at 91% this morning when I put it on.

The Huawei watch had 768MB of ram (IF memory serves correctly) but even with that, Wear OS was still sort of slow and glitchy. The 1GB on the Gen 5 definitely makes a difference. It still has moments when it glitches and slows a little but it's a lot better. I don't have nearly as many moments. The watch is much more responsive and I think I will enjoy getting Google Pay back. For the most part, I would have to say the Gen 5 is very smooth and responsive. Coming from those other watches, I have nothing to complain about.

Just a comparison...I also recently bought my wife a Samsung Galaxy watch. Yes, I went to Samsung for her but she also owns a Samsung phone and doesn't have the same feelings about Samsung as I. She started using it on Friday and even though she is happy with it overall, her battery isn't doing any better than my Gen 5. She did get the smaller 42mm version with the smaller battery but I've seen numerous reviews about it saying that they get about 2&1/2 days to even 3 days out of a charge. The wife might swing 1&1/2 days which is on par with what I'm seeing with the Gen 5. But I can say one thing...helping her setup of the Tizen OS based watch made me want to stick with my familiar Wear OS watch even more. You can't undo 4+ years of familiarity with a particular brand.

About the Gen 5, I really like the big main button with the spinning dial. The galaxy watch has the spinning bezel. This has the spinning dial and I think I like that more than the spinning bezel. Google assistant pulls up fast and it listens pretty well. I was having some issues having it text my wife but that's something I'll check on further. But at least between my phone and my watch, if I need to rattle off a quick message to someone while driving, I can voice activate things and speak my message and get it done that way without taking my attention off the road.

So far, this watch has been everything that I wanted and hoped for. I haven't tested the watch in water yet and I might not do that anytime too soon as I don't hit the water too often. But I'm sure it's better than my Huawei watch and I took that into the pool a few times.

From having my eye on this watch since it was announced to seeing it in store at a Fossil in Vegas and to finally getting it on my wrist, I can honestly say that this is the best Wear OS has to offer. Fossil makes most of the watches with wear os. The Emporio Armani Smartwatch 3 is a nice looking watch and it was just announced but I don't think it's worth the extra money. The Gen 5 I think looks like a very nice watch. It can work in any situation. Much more versatile than my Huawei watch 2.

Update: I can definitely confirm that I love my gen 5. I've had it for a couple of weeks now. It feels so familiar to me but it runs so much smoother than all the previous watches. The battery life gets me a full day without any trouble. I'm using a watch face off the play store that gives me options to show on the screen. But even with this face and constant notifications all day, I'm somewhere between 45-60% after 16 hours. I could probably eek out 2 days in some situations but I'm an overnight charging person anyways so why bother trying for it... This is the best of wear os until the new chip gets released and maybe, something from Google gets released now that they own fitbit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good smartwatch...but...

I am writing this review after using the watch for 25 days on a regular basis
+ve
* looks are subjective but it is more like a traditional watch and matches with almost all outfits
* easy to swap watch bands
* the os till date has not hanged and is smooth
* charhing time from 0 to 100% is about an hour which is pretty good

-ve
* this is a strictly 1 day watch so need to charge everyday and that too in custom mode.
If daily mode is used it is a strictly 15 hr watch
* sometimes the watch just refuses to connect to the internet. This it seems is an OS issue.
* sometimes messages just do not give the vibration feedback. Restarting solves the problem
