Really impressed by the stabilisation!

The GOOD: Image stabilization works surprisingly well. Light and easy to carry. Eye relief allows them to be used even when wearing glasses.
The BAD: Image is distorted especially around the edges making them hard to use for any length of time. Some may find the field of view too small (so centering can be difficult)

I spend a lot of my spare time whale watching from a hillside here and had been using a pair of 8X decent binoculars after finding anything stronger just too hard to stay on the whale, boat or whatever I'm trying to look at. Even the little 8x ones are hard to get steady enough to see sharply and then it's still only 8X magnification. At first I didn't think these were much good because when I turned the knob to "on" the image was slightly better but wobbly, that turned out to be my own fault. Turning it on seems to first unlock a semi floating prism or mirror but I'd taken the battery out to make sure there was no plastic insulating "shipping insulators" and put the batter back, wrong way around. I realised after a minute and put it the right way around and despite these being twice as powerful at 16X things were SOOO much steadier and sharper. These are fantastic! I read all the reviews and some said they had trouble focusing so I wound the center adjustment right through it's range a few times then the separate eyepiece too, which was pretty firm at first and had no trouble at all. I read 1 where he'd apparently somehow messed up the mechanism and thanks to my misadventure with the battery I realised that you have to bring the on off knob to fully off to lock the moving internals in place. I don't know if that would save it from damaged internals but it's got to help, either way, I'm going to try very hard not to bang them around. As they are now, I'm awe struck with the detail in distant objects I could never see with even 20X magnification because even on a tripod it's never going to look as sharp as through these, as long as I put the battery the right way around lol.
