Product description
Return to the mean streets of the 1980s for a pair of ghetto real crime dramas that redefined Hong Kong cop movies. Based on real events in the then Crown Colony, the ‘Long Arm of the Law’ films depict the threat posed by former Mainland Chinese soldiers crossing the border to stage hyper violent crimes in broad daylight. These films are a stunning blend of cinema verité with bone-crunching Hong Kong stunt sequences. ‘Long Arm of the Law 1 & 2’ left local audiences shell-shocked when first released, and still retain their raw impact today. Don’t miss the chance to see a double bill torn from the most savage era in reel and real Hong Kong history!

LONG ARM OF THE LAW (1984)
Thugs sneak into Hong Kong to rob a jewellery store, killing a cop during their getaway. They plan another heist while hiding from the police hunting them down to avenge their slain comrade.
LONG ARM OF THE LAW 2 (1987)
Three Chinese police escaped from Mainland China to Hong Kong. In order to live legally in Hong Kong, they agree to be police informers and fight with those criminals who come from Mainland China.
These two movies are some of the best yet released by 88Films, the long arm of the law movies are dark, dirty gritty action movies make no mistake, some Hong Kong gems right here! These are the type of movies that directors like Quentin Tarantino get inspiration from, no comic slapstick moments these are serious action and thriller, good character building movies. Plenty bloody violence mainly in the form of gun fights and shootings, not as heavy on fight scenes like some, all the violence is old school practical effects of course, an amazing cast of actors in both movies and some amazing shots that stand out letting you know your watching an 80's classic Hong Kong movie, the movies both move at a medium pace with scenes of action spread throughout, but when it comes its worth it especially the brilliant and brutal end action scene to the original and the second movie has a very brutal torture scene (Hong Kong cut only) these are classic cult movies that are a must get if your into this genre of movies!!
Picture quality is decent for an old 80's restoration.
Features are plentiful, your usual commentaries and interviews (part1-92mins, part2-73mins)
Region A,B. Running times (Part1-106mins, 105mins.) (Part2-90mins, 87mins.)
The Hong Kong cut of part 2 has more uncut violence.
Both movies Cantonese with English subtitles, the Export cuts are English dubbed only.
As usual the limited box-set is very cool, comes with a rigid box with great artwork, a booklet and a poster of the new and original art as well as reversible sleeves, good to see 88Films always using quality artworks unlike Arrow video these days.
