Purchased this charger as I have a 1982 Landcruiser 4WD with a 4.2 Litre engine which needs good cranking power to get the engine started on cold frosty Australian mornings.
As the 4WD isn't a daily driver I wanted an automatic charger that could be connected for days on end, without having to worry about overcharging etc.
Plugged this charger in, hooked it up to the 4WD battery (85 Ahr 720 CCA N70ZZ battery), and monitored it for the first few hours just to see what went on. The LCD displays the batteries voltage when you first connect it (with NO AC Power), then switches to it's charging cycle when AC Power is turned on.
Left the battery to charge, and heard the cooling fan turn on and off a number of times during the test. Felt the charger and it was always cool to the touch, so there's no heat issues to worry about. Voltage readouts on the charger matched the multimeter throughout the test. Checked on the charger the next morning and it was on trickle charge, showing a fully charged battery on it's LCD.
I now leave the charger connected on a regular basis, and the unit feels cool each time I check on it, so I can certainly give it 5 Stars. It does what they say, and seems to do it well.
Also tested the charger on smaller batteries that had been sitting in the garage for a few months, and both batteries went from around 1/2 capacity to full in around 5 hours - No problems at all. One last test was on a small 7 Ahr Gel Cell Sealed battery we use for running camping lights, which was fairly flat, and the charger had no problem bringing it up to Full charge in only a few hours.
Only observation I have with the charger, the AC Power Lead is quite short, so you may need an extension lead for it to reach your battery, but that's no real issue for most people. The user manual has pictures so is simple and easy to read, and the unit itself is surprisingly light. Overall I'm impressed with the charger - Works great.
