PLA clogged my Bowden tube EVERY SINGLE TIME, ABS had adhesive properties of a twice used envelope

PLA clogged my Bowden tube EVERY SINGLE TIME, ABS had adhesive properties of a twice used envelope
Let me just preface this with the fact that I've used several different types of PLA from multiple brands, as well as TPU and PETG. None of them gave me the problems I had with this company's filament. I bought both PLA and ABS, but I can only leave one review because they're grouped under the same product.PLA (Purple): Pretty colour. Hard to find purple filament :( Although any colour from another brand is bound to be better than this stuff. First time I tried printing it, worked fine for about half an hour. Left it running for a couple of hours while I did other stuff and when I came back it hadn't printed any more than the first 30 minutes, just the print head moving around in midair not extruding anything.Checked my nozzle (was clean, but changed it anyway just to be thorough). Unloaded the filament (came out seemingly fine), tried to put it back in, would barely move. Took the tube out of the extruder, was clean. Pulled out the hot end end, and it had clogged so badly that it had actually melted the end of the tube and melded with it. How it does so at 200° I'm not sure I want to know.Poked around the inside of the hot end a bit with a needle and managed to pull a few bits of melted filament out. Cut off the now permanently blocked bit of tube, put it back in at both ends, loaded the filament like normal, was extruding fine, but by that point it was Too Damn Late™ and I went to bed.Tried my print again in the morning, laid down a few wisps of filament, then nothing. My brain immediately goes into "oh, fork" mode, I head straight for the tube at the hot end, yep, there's a clog. Hadn't become one with the tube (probably because it hadn't been roasting for a couple of hours unattended), but still a blob big enough to prevent any from going into the nozzle. This time it was just sitting in the end of the tube so I could pull it out with tweezers.Pulled that out, put everything back in, tried again. This time no filament came out at all. Pulled out the Bowden tube, removed the similar clog. Tried again. Same result. At this point I'm "I've had enough of this shirt", swapped in some (Comgrow) PLA and my nine and a half hour print went superbly.ABS (orange): First ABS I've used (I'm only slightly put off by its toxicity) and my prints were failing so often it wasn't funny. At first I thought I just needed to dial in the right settings for ABS. But following their recommended settings (as well as everything else which is within reason for ABS) it just wouldn't adhere. Some of my bigger prints, I didn't even get a first layer, just a bunch of strings. Other times supports were getting knocked out, or some (very slightly) overhanging features would just drop as soon as the filament came out of the nozzle.Made sure my bed was level and the Z offset was correct, all other filaments working fine. But even trying a simple test pattern (in this case printing circles in a 4x4 grid on the build plate) other filaments worked perfectly. Best total I got from about five attempts was three out of sixteen, before one didn't adhere, just created a clump at the end of the nozzle, and I had to stop it manually.Ordered the PLA and ABS at the same time. I tried the PLA before the ABS. After its problems, I figured "maybe I just got a bad batch". But having had trouble with both, I'm never going anywhere near Voxelab again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top-notch ASA filament for outdoor projects!
Reviewed in the United States on 7 April 2024

his VOXELAB ASA filament is exactly what I've been looking for for my outdoor 3D printing projects. It's incredibly strong and durable, and I'm confident my prints will stand up to the elements. I printed a mailbox post cover and it hasn't shown any signs of warping or cracking even after months of sun and rain.

I also love that this filament is UV resistant. Other filaments I've tried get brittle and break down in sunlight, but this ASA filament seems to hold up incredibly well. The black color looks fantastic too, with a nice subtle sheen. Overall, I'm super impressed with this filament. It's a bit more expensive than some PLA filaments, but for outdoor projects, the added durability is absolutely worth it. Highly recommend!

5.0 out of 5 stars Strong material
Reviewed in Canada on 5 April 2024

This product prints very nicely and it took quite a few tries almost taking half the roll just to dial in the perfect settings on the printer. Having an enclosed printer works wonders for this material as it is very prone to warping if your bed isn't heated properly and using the correct bonding material. Make sure you use a glue stick if you are using a smooth surface it is meant to be able to remove the part, and also make it so that it doesn't warp once printed. Although ASA don't smell there is a distinct odor you will smell akin to ABS but it's not noticeable unless your printer isn't enclosed. Either way I'd advise using a ventilated room or have an enclosure with some kind of activated charcoal filter.

Pay attention to Nozzle Temps make sure you dial it in correctly as many filaments don't react the same. Also print bed temp that is a key ingredient as well as speed. I've dialed in Temp for Nozzle, Bed, and Speed even at high speed my prints remains great, once I got the retraction speed and amount set.
