The perfect swan song for the PS4
There is a lot to love about Ghost of Tsushima but at the very top of the list is how well designed this open-world is. I'm not the biggest fan of open-world games usually as they can be quite time consuming and the side content at times feels almost tacked on. Ghost of Tsushima not only makes every mission feel organic but the side content is just as good as the main missions and exploring this world and seeing a bird and fox in the distant letting you know you're close to a secret was a great mechanic.Visually, I can't believe this game is running on the PS4 it is stunning! No frame drops either which was surprising. The story is compelling, the combat feels smooth and fluent, the stealth is satisfying whilst not overly complex and really my only gripe with the game is the camera whilst in combat can be a bit finicky and could have used a lock on feature. But all in all I have to say Ghost of Tsushima is a must play for any PS4 owners, it's well worth your time.

I have only 2 small complaints with this game. First, as mentioned, the lip synch is to the English dialogue, I would have preferred it be done to the Japanese. Second, the jumping/climbing mechanics can be a bit touchy. There were numerous times when Jin would rub against a climbable ledge and not grab it, falling to his death.

There is so much to love about the game though. The setting is great, the story is not complicated but well told, with an ending that suit the tone of the game perfectly. Bushido is handled really well, and the way it impacts the relationship between Jin and his surrogate father, dooming them to the inevitable conclusion, was beautiful to watch unfold. The side quests are also memorable and fleshed out. There is no 'run to point A, grab item, run back' stuff. The combat is fun, no Sekiro levels of challenge, but I did like the stances, various weapons, and upgrade systems a lot. I even enjoyed the stealth parts when they were required, and almost every encounter in the game can be handled with honour (ie, walk in and challenge the enemy) or without (hide in the bushes picking off everyone). The choice is up to the player.

If you enjoy historical drama, anything with samurai, swords, or Japanese themes, and if you thought Assassin's Creed was fun but hated all the popping in-and-out of the Animus stuff, this is for you. There are a couple of gay/bi characters in the game, but it doesn't feel woke, and you have to be paying attention to find them. Sucker Punch don't hit you in the face with it or offer a sermon to the player like a certain other developer did recently, and aside from a little samurai butt reveal whenever Jin takes a bath, there's no abrupt and uncomfortable sex/nudity in the game. Also unlike that other game, when it comes to a crucial end-game decision, it is up to the player to make it, and live with the consequences.

Lastly, there is no level-gating in the game. You don't have to be a certain level to enter certain regions or attempt certain missions, so you can play the game at your own pace, and do or ignore as much side content as you like. Obviously levelling up will make things easier, but it's not required.

I can't wait to see where this series goes. There is so much potential here for sequels. SP could continue the story of the Ghost, or do some spin-offs with their side characters. I'd like to see this become like the Yakuza series of samurai games. Bravo Sucker Punch. See you on the PS5.

Great price, very quick delivery from Amazon, was packaged well too. If you've always wanted to traverse ancient Japan as a wandering samurai or ronin, armed with a cool arsenal of sword moves, this is the game for you. Battle mechanics work fine, with multiple stances and fighting styles to choose from, and the freedom to choose between a stealthy kill-from-the-shadows ninja fighting style or sauntering in like a boss, katana drawn and drawing in enemies eager to challenge you. In-game environment and scenery is absolutely beautiful - and an in-game feature allows you to vary the weather according to your tastes. It is also vast and varied - with tons to explore and discover, with the game spanning to large land masses which make up the island of Tsushima. And it's not all fighting and assassinations - there are shrines to reach with your rock climbing and rappelling skills, onsens to discover, side quests to embark on, mythical weapons and killer moves to discover. Photo mode in the game allows you to capture all those beautiful moments as you play out your samurai movie fantasies. Highly recommended.

Even thought of playing a game where you can get naked and think about your Dad? Nope. Me neither. But you can do this and more in Ghost of Tsushima. I waited to play this on PS5, and it does not disappoint. It is a beautiful game, running at a constant 60FPS. Who needs ray tracing when you have such amazing scenery! The game play is great, if you've played an Assassins Creed game, the combat mechanic will feel familiar. The addition of different stances adds a bit of complexity, and the Stand-off mini games make you feel like a real bad ass. Where this game excels is in it's story. Right from the get go, you are down with Jin and his cause. The voice acting, both in Japanese, and in English is great. The over all politeness when dealing with other Japanese character is a great change of pace with the violence in the game, and being able to bow to honour the dead is a nice touch.
5/5 Would single-handedly save an Island again.
