I bought two of these lights and I think they are very good for the price.
They are bright and the dimmers work well. Having physical dimmers means the position is retained when switched off and on. The barn doors are effective and seem good. The tension on them is perfect, so they don't droop but there are screws that I imagine you could tighten if they wear.
If you are a professional, using lights on location every day, packing them up and unpacking then maybe you would spend five times as much for greater robustness but having just borrowed a pair of equivalent 'pro lights' for a portrait shoot from a friend who is a professional (who did indeed pay five times as much) I can honestly say these are just as good at lighting the subject and frankly if one failed (and I have no reason to think it would) you could just replace it. You get cases too with a foam insert so use that, treat them well and you should be fine.
They are great for portrait key and back lighting probably in conjunction with a big softy! But as they are LED and don't get hot you can soften these too with extra diffusers in addition to the slide-in one they come with. I would think also great for product shots.
I haven't used them with batteries so cant comment on that.
One small gripe is that the cable from the transformer brick to the light is short (about a meter) so if you raise the light high on a stand it will dangle, which cant be good for the connection where it plugs into the light. I tended to take that tension off by hooking the wire around the stand knobs but that is annoying when you want to adjust hight, probably not a great solution H&S wise either! It's a small gripe and overall for the money these are excellent value and performance for any pro-am or I would suggest professional too.
