sharpening system diamond sharpening stone

Diamond stone sharpeners, known for their extremely long lifespan, can be applied to sharpening a variety of edged tools, from kitchen knives and razors to woodworking tools and whetstones.

Can you use these to sharpen ceramic knives effectively?

You have to have a diamond stone for ceramic blades. If you're good at freehanding on a stone, then you can do a ceramic knife on a diamond stone.

Do theses require honing oil, or can they be used dry?

They can be used dry. Diamond stones are not porous like other whet stones so the oil would just float along the surface. Some oils like vegetable would just gum up anyway.

How to sustain the lifespan of my diamond sharpening plate?

Diamond plates are super easy to maintain. After each use, clean the sharpener with running water and a soft brush. Remember to dry out the plate and store it in a cool, ventilated place.

I got what I expected (that is, the product was sensibly described at the point of ordering) and it arrived in less time than I really needed.
I was highly annoyed to find that in navigating the ordering process I inadvertently signed up to Prime which I DO NOT WANT.
My frequency of usage does not warrant the expense and I want to rescind my signing up please.

Excellent sharpening stones. I'll definitely be buying more when these eventually wear out. I've resharpened my knife four times with these and they do a great job, confirmed by microscope video attached. There's some damage to my blade here these stones can't get out, but that isn't a downside. These sharpening stones aren't meant to fix big chips and damage.
But just like any tool, it can only do a good job if YOU know how to use it correctly. Unless you're already experienced with these, go YouTube a tutorial video even if you think you know what you're doing. You may learn a little helpful tip if nothing else.
If you misuse it, you'll get bad results. I.E. destroying the sharpening stones too quickly, ruining your blade's edge, scraping the hell out of surfaces you don't want to.

Worked as I had hoped. No water or oil needs to be used. Nice! After several uses I do notice wear of the coarsest stone. That is to be expected. Cost per use should be acceptable. I will buy an identical replacement set when needed. Oh! Very important point: These are longer than stones which may have come in your sharpening kit. You will likely need to adjust the handle end to accommodate these diamond "stones".

I have an EdgePro system and have been thinking about a set of additional diamond stones, but the costs have held me back a bit. The Edge Pro product is fantastic, stones mounted on billet aluminum backs and very precise. Also not too cheap.

These looked interesting and after going through the first round of sharpening my paring and small utility knife for the kitchen, I've found these to be quite usable, but not perfect.

Pros:

- Value priced
- Good selection of grits in the set
- Fast cutting
- Even grit distribution
- Nicely marked with the grit size

Cons:

- Plastic mounted which means they flex a bit in use
- Not completely flat, so I'll NOT be using these on my more expensive knives
- Not sure the grit measurement is correct. The #600 in particular feels rougher than the #400
- The warning label on each "stone" says they will RUST if they get wet, so keep them dry.

Overall these area a great place to start with diamond "stones".

We will see how they last.

Update:

After a month with these, I'm pretty happy. They work 100% with my EdgePro and my Ruxin.

These are great "stones" for re-setting the edge on a knife and cut cleanly and quickly. I do get a little bit of the plastic holder being shaved off because the plates are set so low in the holder, but it is much faster to completely resharpen a knife with these than with real stones.

The plates with the diamond grit are less than 1mm in thickness which means that on their own they are not perfectly flat. I am considering mounting at least one of them on an EdgePro aluminium blank for improved flatness and polishing.

The only drawback is that because they are not evenly set in the holders, getting an evenly polished edge is very tough. I usually go to my ultrafine stone and then on to the polishing tapes to perfect the edge.

Still, for the price, these area great addition to my sharpening kit.

Product does a good job putting an edge on my blades. Good price, and easy to use. I’m not sure how long they will last. I’ve noticed that they seem to be wearing out quicker than I would like. I guess more use will be needed to determine the length of time they will last. I would purchase again.
