Limited 180gm Vinyl LP repressing of this soundtrack to the 1986 animated film. TRANSFORMERS: THE MOVIE was based on the animated TV series by the same name. The film was directed by Nelson Shin, who produced the original Transformers television series, and features the voices of Eric Idle, Judd Nelson, Leonard Nimoy, Casey Kasem, Robert Stack, Lionel Stander, John Moschitta, Jr.., Peter Cullen and Frank Welker. It also marked the final roles for both Orson Welles, who died just days after his last voice recording session for the film, and Scatman Crothers, who died months after it's release. Set to a soundtrack of synth-based incidental music and hard-driving metal music, composed by Vince DiCola, the movie has a decidedly darker tone than the television series. Stan Bush's song 'The Touch', which prominently featured in the film, was originally written for the Sylvester Stallone movie COBRA. The movie also features other well-known songs including 'Instruments of Destruction' by NRG, Stan Bush's song 'Dare', two songs by Spectre General, 'Nothin's Gonna Stand in Our Way', 'Hunger' as well as 'Weird Al' Yankovic's song 'Dare to Be Stupid'. The TRANSFORMERS theme song for the movie was performed by the band Lion.

I figured after being pulled into a "vinyl resurgence" by the G1 score LP that was released back in March (2018) - it only seemed proper that I look to see if THIS soundtrack was available.

Imagine my surprise, especially given how much hassle I went through trying to find the CD back in the day, to find that it was - and a new 180-gram pressing of it to boot!

Well I immediately ordered it, very curious how a new vinyl edition would hold up next to the CD I knew so very well.

The quick answer: incredibly well.

I'm going to assume that if you are even considering this, you are a fan of the tracks already: and I can assure you this LP does them justice - they sound great here (especially Vince's score tracks).

Physically, the record was in absolute pristine condition - so I didn't even bother giving it so much as a dry, soft cloth going over before putting it on the turntable.

Surface noise was at a minimum (if any) and honestly, I think my copy of this could easily be used as an exhibit in the "See? Vinyl IS better than digital!" argument. :)

Aside from the record and sound quality: The cover is a really nice looking "art piece" and was flawless on arrival. The inner sleeve is a high quality one (a sturdy outer layer with a soft anti-static-type inner layer) and it all comes packaged in a nice heavy-duty clear outer sleeve.

I really couldn't ask for more from a vinyl purchase: This was a top-notch pick-up, for sure.
