Quiet, incredibly fast and smooth mechanical keyboard for gaming
5 Stars
Quiet, incredibly fast and smooth mechanical keyboard for gaming
This is one slick mechanical gaming keyboard. I own a few different keyboards, a TKL Razer Blackwidow, a full size K95 RGB and this new K100 optical; this is my favourite keyboard to use. They are all great keyboards but the accuracy, speed and smoothness from these new optical mechanical keys are just so nice to use. My K95 has Cherry Speed keys which are similar but not as smooth. I highly recommend typing on one before you buy one, since the keys are very fast activating, requiring a very light keypress. It's not the best keyboard for typing for this reason as it's easy to brush another key, but this keyboard is designed for gaming and it is amazing for this task. I notice that I can be faster with less effort using this keyboard, it just makes gaming sharper. Besides the amazing optical mechanical keys, the rest of the keyboard is what you would expect from a high-end keyboard. Modern, very well built, comfortable and with very easy to use software. You can store your profiles on-board so you can just load up your profiles right away if you travel with your keyboard to events, etc...no need to install from the PC. It all just works really well and I highly recommend having a look at this keyboard. I compared it to over 10 others and this ticked all the boxes. I'll say again, try it first. It's a very sensitive keypress and it's gaming focused so it can be touchy when typing essays or emails, for example. I like it for typing also, but I can see why some people don't. Overall, this is the best full size gaming keyboard I have used!!

Well built and very solid keyboard. RGB also looks great and not washed out. Nice soft wrist rest, and textured keys. Also comes with a spare/replacement set of commonly used keys such as 'WASD'.

I picked the Corsair OPX - optical keys which are very sensitive so will take some getting used to especially coming from a more traditional mechanical keyboard. Not sure how it compares to the Cherry MX version.

A little pricey but well worth the money.

Well built but GARBAGE.
1) Three sticky keys that don't unstick
2) The CAPS button is too wide and thus WAY too close tothe A key .... disruptive and frustrating to the max!
3) The supposed brilliant "iCUE" is an absolute PIG of a thing - not remotely user friendly
4) The utterly GARBAGE instructions and misleading, inaccurate high level instructions for assigning macros to keys
5) The INABLILITY to download what appears to be important software to program the G keys - need to download "Elgato Stream Deck software" that is completely irrelevant to a keyboard.
6) The TOTAL LACK of ANY customer support - at least in a reasonable time frame (4 days and still waiting)
SUGGEST: Avoid Corsair like the plague (and that's me being nice!)

As a software developer and a gamer. I need a keyboard which is good for both gaming and coding. Thank goodness, I bought this one. K100 with optical switch.

All the keycaps feel great when I just put my finger on it. The optical switch is great for gaming and surprisingly good for coding as well. I have used corsair K70 red switch for three years. It was overall great, just mistyped due to the sensitive linear switches. By comparing K100 with K70, K100 is even more sensitive that it need even less force to trigger a key press. However, I was surprised with the optical switches. My typing quality improved immediately when I start to use K100. I don't know why, but the typing experience is just much better than the k70.

Another good thing for K100 is the palm rest. Simply the best one fit with K100 (of course). I dumped all my old ones.

One more thing, the RGB lights. Before K100, I don't get it why RGB was treated as a pro for a keyboard. Now I get it. It is just make you feel good.

One thing not so user friendly is the icue software. In order to enjoy the full feature of this keyboard, you will have to install the chucky icue software. But there was no instruction to tell you how to setup them. I had to google and watch quite a few YouTube videos to learn how to use it.

Product came without Amazon packagaing (with seal open) and mentioned that it was an Amazon return on the parcel sticker. I was surprised about this but figured that I must've accidentally bought a Amazon return item at discounted price when I didn't see any mention of that. The product looked fine and had a new smell to it so I thought it was okay.

Upon seeing it now in my order history, it says the purchase condition was "New" which is not correct. Perhaps I should have returned it from the start but now it appears too late for that.

I am having issues with the keyboard constantly crashing where I would need to unplug and replug the keyboard to get it working. The issue appears to be prevelant for other users too and Corsair has no fixes.

No amount of troubleshooting for fixes has gotten me anywhere. In some instances, the crashing gets so bad that I am now fed up with it and will likely not buy another Corsair product again

From what I'm seeing, other people who own the keyboard are having similar issues, too. The only thing Corsair seems to have done so far is release a firmware update which forces the key board to restart itself on crash but still makes you lose input for a second or so. This feature only works 60% of the time and when it doesn't you have to fully unplug and replgu the keyboard to get it working again.

As it is, do not buy this keyboard.

This keyboard IMO is the best of the best. Yea, it is a bit more expensive than other out there, but you are getting more. You get an option of many different Cherry MX keys(I went with Blue), a USB pass through, GREAT RGB lighting, added macro keys and a VERY comfortable wrist rest.

I have tried the Razer Blackwidow V3 and the Elite. Both are good keyboards, but the Elite, while it had a nice wrist rest(magnetic) had black key bases so it's RGB lighting is dim and the V3, which does have good RGB lighting, didn't have the USB pass through and came with a hard plastic wrist rest that doesn't attach , in any way, to the keyboard(no magnets or anything, it just sits there). The green Razer keey were pretty good but no match for the feel and sound of true Cherry MX Blue keys.

Another thing I love about the K95 is the ability to load lighting profiles directly to the keyboard so you do NOT need to be running iCue to get the lighting effects you want. This is a nice thing to have when you want to run a minimized set up for gaming or move the keyboard to another computer. Razer has none of this.

On top of this, the light really blows Razer out of the water. With the exception of the Blackwidow V3, all Razer RGB keyboards seem dim and under lit compared to Corsair. The translucent key bases make all the difference. Plus this has an added RGB light bar at the top of the keyboard for an extra add effect, which looks awesome. And the Corsair log is at the top of the keyboard, so it does NOT get hidden by the write rest, unlike Razer's keyboards, which have the log at the bottom.

The one (big) minus I will give Corsair is iCue. It is a big step behind Razer in programmability. It seems to take a lot more steps to accomplish what is easily done in Razer's Synapse. Plus, if you have multiple Razer devices, it allows you to group the devices so when you set a lighting profile, it applies to ALL devices. In iCue, you have to set the lighting profile for EACH device independently, which is a complete waste of time. To add to this, while Corsair has profiles that you can load to the keyboard directly, you have to program them in it's own HARDWARE tab and you CANNOT copy regular lighting profiles to the Hardware tab. So you basically have to program the light profile TWICE. Another waste of time.

Pros
Solid construction
choice of different Cherry MX keys
USB pass through
GREAT and BRIGHT RGB lighting, with added light bar and logo at top, which won't get blocked by wrist rest
Macro keys
Nicely padded wrist rest

Cons
iCue - Corsair really needs to step it up and look at how Razer does Synapse as there are many head scratching things in iCue.

All in all this is a great keyboard. If you are after great RBG lighting and added macro keys, get this. Just be prepared for some extra effort needed for iCue.
