Better than any Rock collab for less than a third of the price!

Better than any Rock collab for less than a third of the price!
TL;DR: The trueengine 3 se's are perfect, don't fall out, IPx6 so you can shower with it, and last an average day, all for such a cheap price! You'd be a fool to get this over their $300 JBL counterparts.FULL REVIEW/RANT:To start off, I'd just like to say the pair above is the awesome soundpeats and below are my two+ old JBL Tune 120s.The Tune 120s are already heavily outdated, you need the right earbud because the left one doesn't connect to the phone without it, it's charged via microUSB, and the way the buds connect to the case to charge is very janky (it uses three prongs that stick out of the case and damage very easy). I went to my local JB hi-fi store to window shop for a new pair of wireless earbuds and the staffer was honestly surprised I've had it for so long, usually these models last a year at most. Now that's not to say I took care of it well, not at all! I've poked and prodded into it with tweezers to get the charger to work countless times and the left earpiece got run over by a car haha. Yet I still held onto them because I couldn't justify getting a new pair for twice the price of $150 just because they're prone to fall off during workouts. It's ridiculous that I had to pay $300 or more just to listen to music I enjoy at my gym. Sure I could've gone with cheaper options but that would still be around $100 or more and I would lose audio quality/other features. This made wanting to get a new pair difficult, on one hand I wanted to listen to my own songs at the gym to improve my workouts, however that didn't justify paying so much. Then came these Awesome earpieces by soundpeats! Absolutely perfect for me as it meets all my requirements, a cheap and solid pair of earbuds that both sound good and last a while. The build quality is really good, unlike my current pair. The true engine's cover all the issues I had discussed above. In regards to drawbacks, I can't think of any that effect me too much. I have noticed difficulty learning the touch commands and they go off on their own sometimes but that hasn't been an issue so far. I also so online people complaining about how they feel like they stick out too far and/or feel like they're falling off, this isn't an issue for me because my regular pair stick out further and I'm used to it.

Warning: When you first use these headsets, turn the volume down to approximately 1/3 of your normal listening volume.
These headsets are very, very loud even at a low volume. Not sure if this has to do with the new Qualcomm chip inside or
if the headsets are being amped; that said, the sound quality is not compromised.

Improvements:

1. Superior Fit! These fit in the ear very well now, significant improvement over the original Soundpeats Truengine. These even fit better than my WF-1000XM3

2. USB-C Charging: Fantastic! Love having all my devices charge with USB-C, far better than micro B

3. Comply Foam Tips: Included with my unit. Is this standard? Fantastic value, as Comply Foam tips usually cost approximately 20.00 USD + shipping,
so we get a 7$ gift essentially with our head set.

4. Passive Sound Isolation: Very good. It may be due to the superior design and fit of the earphones that allows for a great seal and passive sound isolation.
- Tested these with ambient noise from flying and they don't do a very good job to isolate/reduce sound from say planes. I would say effectiveness
is probably 10-15% at most when compared to my WH-1000xm3 (SONY ANC Headphones, 3rd Generation)

5. Noise Cancelling during calls
While not noticeable to me, my friends on the calls reported that they were able to hear me just fine. I was not outside in a public setting during this. However, YMMV

Disclaimer: No ANC (active noise cancellation) on the device. Noise cancellation appears to be with phone calls.

6. Sound control: They added touch control to the soundpeats, allowing you to increase/decrease volume.

7. IPX6 - Tested. Used them during a shower, too lazy, wanted to continue listening to a podcast. Didn't encounter any problems. Wiped them down after.

- Note: These are just water resistant and not meant to be waterproof.

Negatives:

1. Charging Case: Feels thin and less robust. The first generation case had a very firm feel with the mechanism. Take care of the charging case.

2. Occasional Pairing issues: The headset does NOT pair well with multiple devices IE PC/Phone/iPad and etc. Ideally, you should just keep headset connected to one dedicated device. You can technically disconnect, and manually pair; however, I encountered small issues but others have reported more significant issues. They subsequently communicated with Soundpeats and they were able to get a warranty replacement for their device.

Personal thoughts:
Sound Quality is very comparable to first generation; however, it seems that the Truengine 3 may be more efficient as I need to increase the source volume a lot more to get comparable sound.

Superior Comfort: The increased comfort was worth the purchase, in my opinion.
USB-C Charging: Self explanatory. More convenient and very fast charging with USB-C

Should you buy it?
Do you own a pair of bluetooth earphones already?
No: Fantastic purchase
Yes: If your own pair is fantastic, then keep your money. If you're worried about losing/damaging your other ones or just want a dedicated pair for going out/commuting/going to the gym, pick one of these up. They're not terribly expensive or unaffordable. If they get damaged/lost, replacement wouldn't be too outrageous.

Do you own an old pair of SoundPeats Truengine?
No: Definitely purchase these!
Yes: Only purchase if you feel that the originals don't fit very well OR you want USB-C charging functionality.

Do you recommend it for the gym?
Definitely. I used the original ones for the gym, no problems with sound or disconnection.

Do you recommend these for going on the run?
Yep, they feel good and sound great. You can actually control the volume as well with a single tap. Tapping on the RIGHT earphone will increase volume,
tapping on the LEFT earphone will decreased volume.

What are some areas for improvement?
ANC Function - If they added ANC to these headsets, they could retail for $100-150 and compete with the likes of Apple, Sony, and Bose as they'd charge $250-300+ for theirs. Furthermore, ANC technology isn't that strong/impressive when compared to headphone ANC like the likes of Sony's WH-1000XM3/XM4 or Bose Quiet Comfort II/III or Bose NC 700 series. There's definitely a potential to be a disrupter.

The build quality of the case is quite mediocre. Unfortunately, I'm assuming costs had to be cut in order to make the headset still profitable, especially when they incorporated USB-C technology. I think it would be worthwhile to charge 5$ more for a better quality case with better materials IMHO.

Pretty decent true wireless earbuds for the price. Overall I'm happy with the purchase, but they're not without their issues and annoyances.

Sound:
* Not bad, but very V-shaped response. Decent bass without being overkill; treble is quite pronounced and a bit harsh. I don't feel that any of the included eartips are a perfect fit, though, and better tips might improve the sound quality. I also don't know how much of the harsh treble is a side-effect of the bluetooth connection rather than the earbuds themselves. Although still a pleasant listening experience, they sound significantly worse than my (wired) KZ-ZSNs.

Pros:
* Small, light, compact case with USB-C plug. Earbuds are held in place by strong magnets, no issues with charging. Very nice overall (although I wish the case lid clicked open as well as shut).
* Decent sound quality without being exceptional
* Touch controls work well
* They "just work" in terms of pairing and connections, you never need to think about it
* Good battery life

Cons:
* The horrible white lights (they're small, but seriously bright) that come on when the earbuds are paired but not actively playing -- why would I want small points of light shining out of my ears every time I pause playback?? That's just weird, and so unnecessary ... it's not like these things ever accidentally turn off when you're using them, so that you'd need the visual feedback.
* Not the best fit for my ears (could just be my ears) Not bad, but my KZ-ZSNs are far more comfortable
* Case lid wants to fall back on my fingers when open (a minor annoyance, but still ... how hard would it have been to have it click open?)
* Noise isolation isn't really a thing with these (although again, I haven't yet found the perfect pair of tips)
* As several other reviewers have mentioned, microphone sound appears faint and muffled and the exact opposite of how they were sold. I wouldn't want to ever use these to make a call with. (Given there's ambient noise cancelling mics built in, I suspect a design fault -- it really shouldn't be this bad, but it's clearly a common experience. Either that, or there's a systemic production failure.) It doesn't affect my usage, but it might affect yours -- so caveat emptor if good mics are important to you.
