5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic action cam for the money

I have zero experience with action cams. I didn't want to take the plunge on a GoPro for $500 so did my usual research, watched a lot of videos and settled on this little one. I went with the V50 Pro over the elite as the videos I saw showed more natural colours and better microphone on the V50 pro. I just wanted to dabble in taking some footage of my ironman training and getting my kids into having some fun with action cam activities. Right out of the box, the camera was straightforward to figure out. There is a manual online that is pretty good. The accessories/mounts are fine so far and seem decent quality. First outing was to a river cliff jumping area near us, so it tested the camera, resolution, sound, stabilization AND waterproofness of the case! It performed flawlessly, and the battery lasted quite a long time. All day at the river in fact.

Transer to my iPhone via wifi was easy.

I don't have a lot to compare to except what I see on youtube. Quality of the video was absolutely fine! Maybe some action cam-philes might say it's poor compared to GoPro, but I can't tell.

I have yet to ride on the bike with it or run.

Overall, for the money, this seems to do exactly what it says. Waterproof case was fine. I would recommend this to anyone looking to get into action cam stuff but not ready to blow the big coin.

It is my firs action camera so I can't compare it with other cameras. I don't take a lots of videos, so for me it worked well on my vacation in Cuba, and a few hikes I did recently. Nice underwater videos , very clear. Touch screen scratches very easily and it doesn't respond very fast from time to time, other than that it does a very good job. Battery life is OK. Big plus, it comes with tons of accessories. Recommended

The Akaso V50 Pro Action Camera is not short on packaging. There is nothing they could have done to package it better. In fact, I felt for a short time like I might need an engineering degree to figure out how to get it out of the package. It was bolted into the box and the cardboard box was glued to the lucite box. I had to rip the cardboard box off on all sides to get the lucite box off, then had to use a screwdriver to unbolt it from the box.
But what was in the cardboard box was absolutely incredible. So many different pieces and ways to configure the camera to be bolted onto helmets or handlebars.

In addition to that, there is a waterproof casing for the camera, a remote on a wrist strap, other straps that include a buckle or velcro, and zip ties. There are also two batteries, a battery charger, and charging cable. While there is a very brief instruction booklet, there is a far more detailed user manual provided online in a PDF.

The only thing I had to add to the action camera was an SD card. If you want to be able to save the videos and photos you take, you have to use an SD card, so I had to purchase that separately.

Honestly I didn’t expect to see this good of a video quality from an under $100 action camera. When you watch it in 4K, you can even read the number plates of passing cars. I always pay attention to that when I’m looking at action camera videos as it tells you how clear and crisp the details really are. If there’s a lot of blur then it’s no good. The downside is that the video quality is this clear only in 4K. When you switch to 1080p, you get much more blur and the number plates become unreadable. So it’s definitely not useful as a dashboard camera.

I also really like the natural looking colors. While they do look quite vibrant, they don’t look artificial at all. Like the green and blue colors are on point. The sky isn’t over saturated at all. Nor is there any tint of yellow covering the footage. So overall a great job from AKASO. At least when you are recording during the day. I do want to point out that it completely fails in the dark. As in you can’t see anything at night. So only it’s only useful as long as there’s a good source of light.

All of the action camera settings can be changed directly from the 2″ LCD screen or from your phone. You can pair the AKASO V50 with any iOS or Android device. All you need to do is enable WiFi and install the AKASO phone app. That’s it. So far I haven’t had any problems with the app. It’s pretty straightforward and easy to use. You can also view “live” video from it. Live as in it’s a couple of seconds delayed. You can also use a phone to control the camera from a remote distance. Or you can also use the included remote controller.

In conclusion, it's a very good camera for its price range and a good competition to the more expensive models.

I have been looking for an action camera for some of my upcoming trips and family cruise, as well as to use with my smooth 4 gimbal. I wasn't going to spend $500 for a Hero, therefore I was looking for the next best thing. This is a fantastic high quality action camera for the price and I am not sure anything can match its value. It costs a little more than some of the cheap action cameras, but it also has more features. I love that it is NATIVE 4k /30 FPS and it can record in HVEC (saving half the space on my SD card). It has adjustable FOV which was a must for me. The EIS also works at 4K and it works fairly well, but doesn't perform miracles. The V50 Pro comes with a ton of accessories including mounts, waterproof case, remote control watch (battery included), extra battery etc. There are a couple apps on iphone which can connect to the v50 pro through wifi. The apps are not great therefore it is best to just download either off the camera through the usb port or remove the SD card. I am using a Samsung U3 microsd card and have not had any issues. Just a note, I recommend charging the battery in the camera and using the external charger for your extra battery. The time settings on the camera will erase when the battery is out of the camera for a couple minutes.

I posted a video comparing V50pro with gimbal and just EIS vs. Iphone X with Gimbal. All video originally shot at 4k 30fps in HVEC. The v50pro is alot brighter and less saturated than the Iphone X but the settings I used were all default. It would be easy to colour correct later.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Camera For Vlogging Small Light And Great Value
Reviewed in Canada on 26 March 2019

I bought the Akaso V50 Pro to start a YouTube Channel about our travels, I received it quickly just 2 days before leaving for a two month trip to Portugal. Learning the camera was easy, again there are lots of how to's on YouTube. I leave the camera on automatic mount it on a small telescopic selfie stick that I took the phone holder off, it has a 1/4 20 tripod screw and the Akaso V50 Pro screws right on. The stick mainly helps to hold the camera steady when walking and also to film myself at a reasonable distance without seeing my arm outstretched and because of the wide angle lens it keeps your fingers out of the frame. This works amazingly well and I'm very pleased the image stabilization built into the camera is awesome.

Colour reproduction is pretty good in good lighting, I do edit my clips in FCPX and while filming in the Algarve Portugal, I have found the footage a little biased to blue, so I add a slight warming filter from the video effects in FCPX.

Low light is problematic such as church interiors as the footage looks soft and smeared as though there is no sharpening, but outdoors it is very sharp and viewing my YouTube channel on a 55 inch flat screen T.V. the videos are crisp. Sound is good for the camera, I have not used any external microphones or recorders yet as I'm still new to the camera and traveling in Europe. At arms length the mic picks up our voices quite well, only occasionally do I have to boost the sound in post.

I have had the camera just over 60 days and quite early on I see a little delimitation on the rear screen as though their is a slight air bubble. The other thing I have noticed is it doesn't record every time you press the button and I had not noticed so I press the button to record the clip and then press the record button to stop, what had been happening is the first press didn't start recording and the second press to switch off did start recording, so I have a lot of footage of the side walk upside down. Now when I record I wait until I see the red recording icon on the back screen, this is a very intermittent issue and does not effect the usability of the camera. One last small negative is while recording towards the end of the clip I will get a sound click (pop) on the soundtrack for no reason.

I have the camera set to deflicker lights in the 50 hertz range as I'm in Europe and I noticed my clips in Fatima Cathedral the lights are pulsing, also traffic lights do the same, again no big deal, I just thought it would have stopped that.

I love the camera and would buy it again, in fact I may buy another two for my YouTube Channel at the price there is no competition and the quality of the image is great, I film 1080p at 60fps and the half speed slow motion looks great.

Battery life is also surprisingly good, I do switch the camera off and on to film and generally only film clips up to20 seconds, sometimes up to minute to speed the footage up then switch off. I can get nearly a whole day of Vlogging clips from one battery. I do recommend getting additional batteries and an external charger, I got one battery and a charger from Amazon very cheaply. I paid just under $130 Canadian $ for the Akaso V50 Pro and I think it’s worth it.

Bottom line if you need a camera for everyday YouTubing or action camera get this one.
