Warlukurlangu Artists x Kenji Ngalyipi Dreaming All Over Print SS Rayon Shirt Assorted

Kenji x Warlukurlangu Artists presents Pauline Napangardi Gallagher - Mina Mina Jukurrpa (Mina Mina Dreaming) Ngalyipi printed Resort Collar Short Sleeve Shirt, featuring the artists unique painting design on a lightweight Rayon fabric.

Pauline Napangardi Gallagher was born in 1952 in Yuendumu where she went to the local school and soon after married her promised husband who is now unfortunately deceased. Pauline moved to Nyirripi in 1983 where she still lives with her five children, three sons and two daughters; she also has fifteen grandchildren. Pauline has been painting since 2006 with Warlukurlangu Artists Aboriginal Corporation where she paints her fathers stories Pikilyi Jukurrpa (Pikilyi Dreaming) and Mina Mina Jukurrpa (Mina Mina Dreaming), Dreamings that relate to her land, its features and animals. Pauline continues to paint through the art centre when she visits Yuendumu or when canvas, paint and brushes are dropped off in Nyirripi. Pauline loves colour and uses an unrestricted palette to develop a modern interpretation of her traditional Aboriginal culture.

This Jukurrpa (Dreaming) comes from Mina Mina, a very important womens Dreaming site far to the west of Yuendumu near Lake Mackay and the WA border. In the Dreamtime, ancestral women danced at Mina Mina and karlangu (digging sticks) rose up out of the ground. The women collected the digging sticks and then travelled on to the east, dancing, digging for bush tucker and collecting ngalyipi (snake vine [Tinospora smilacina]). Ngalyipi is a rope-like creeper that grows up the trunks and limbs of trees and is used as a ceremonial wrap and as a strap to carry parraja (coolamons) and ngami (water carriers). In many paintings of this Jukurrpa, sinuous lines are used to represent the ngalyipi (snake vine) and concentric circles are often used to represent the jintiparnta (desert truffles) that the women have collected, while straight lines can be used to depict the karlangu (digging sticks).
